The Deauville-La Touques racecourse to celebrate its 160th anniversary
The 2024 edition of the Meeting de Deauville Barrière celebrates the 160th anniversary of the Deauville-La Touques racecourse. It is one of the oldest and most prestigious racecourses in France. It was inaugurated in 1864 at the instigation of the Duke of Morny, a fervent promoter of Deauville’s development as a seaside and leisure resort.
Throughout August, flags and banners in the colours of this anniversary will decorate the Hippodrome and celebrate the great pages of racing written on its track since the laying of its foundation stone in August 1864.
Philippe Augier, Mayor of Deauville:
It wasn’t a stork that was involved in the birth of Deauville, it was a horse.
160 years ago, when the town that was to become the ‘Pearl of Normandy’ was emerging from the sand and marshes, its first facility dedicated to horses and to welcoming the public was created: the Deauville – La Touques racecourse. They have grown and developed together with the same high standards of quality and the ability to work with the best partners: the Barrière Group, France Galop and Longines, our partner in the Pôle International du Cheval.
Over the years, Deauville has increasingly become a permanent holiday destination for many people, and the 4 Seasons racecourse is now one of the best known in France. All year round, and even night and day, it offers thousands of people meetings, grand prix and prestigious events. I’m delighted that by adding to our range of cultural and sporting events, the racecourse contributes to Deauville’s image and reputation.
I know that this year we’ll once again be vibrating to the rhythm of the gallop and the performances, that we’ll be sharing a convivial atmosphere with a public of all ages, with equine professionals and especially with the jockeys who are always in the limelight, notably during the Gala des Courses.
I would like to thank the organizers, the volunteers, our partners and all horse lovers.
I wish everyone a warm welcome to Deauville.
